In CoVet, you can use the output from one template as an input for another template.
A common example is using a Medical History summary as an input when generating a SOAP note.
What “Outputs as Inputs” Means
In a case, CoVet works with both inputs and outputs.
Inputs are the materials you add to the case, such as:
Audio recordings
PDFs
Other uploaded content
Outputs are the documents CoVet generates from those materials, such as:
Medical History summaries
SOAP notes
Other generated records
Using outputs as inputs means taking something CoVet already generated, like a summary, and reusing it as source material for a new document.
Why Use Outputs as Inputs
This workflow can help CoVet separate historical information from what happened in today’s visit.
Instead of generating a SOAP note directly from a recording plus several medical history PDFs, you can first summarize the historical files, then use that summary alongside today’s recording.
This gives CoVet a more focused set of materials and can make it easier to separate historical context from today’s findings.
It can be especially helpful when:
The case has a long or complicated medical history
You want historical details included in the final note
You want a clearer distinction between past issues and the current presenting problem
The original records contain a lot of detail that may be easier to use after summarizing first
How to Use Outputs as Inputs
To use this workflow in a case:
Open the case
Add your source materials, such as historical PDFs and today’s recording
Generate a summary from the historical files if needed
Go to Generate from library
Open the Content area
Select the current input, such as the consultation recording
Select the generated output you want to reuse, such as the Medical History summary
Go back to your template library
Choose the template you want, such as SOAP
Click Generate
CoVet will then use both the selected input and selected output to generate the new document.
Why use a summary instead of the original PDFs
In many cases, it works better to use a generated summary instead of the original historical files.
A summary is often easier for CoVet to interpret than a large set of source documents. It also helps frame that information as historical background.
This can make the final output more organized, especially when you want CoVet to distinguish between:
What happened during today’s consultation
What comes from the patient’s previous medical history
