The Advanced SOAP is CoVet's most customizable SOAP template.
It works the same way as the Standard SOAP when generating records from audio recordings and uploaded PDFs, but gives you much more control over how those records are structured.
You can toggle individual elements on and off, reorder sections, customize labels and default normals, and save different configurations for different species or visit types.
For a full overview of how Advanced templates work, including terminology, drag-and-drop reordering, and rich text formatting, see Using Advanced Templates to Customize Records.
Finding the Advanced SOAP editor
Click Templates from the web or mobile app. You will see the Advanced SOAP listed with the Advanced badge.
Click to open the template editor.
Adjusting Your Advanced SOAP Template
Toggling elements on and off
Every element in the Advanced SOAP has a visibility toggle, the eye icon on the left of each element row. Clicking it hides or shows that element and its label in your final records.
Some elements are hidden by default because they are less commonly used. It is worth scrolling through each section to check for elements you might want to turn on.
Reordering sections and elements
Use the drag handle, the two-line icon on the right edge of any row, to move sections, subsections, and elements up or down.
Note: Instruction blocks cannot currently be reordered using drag-and-drop. This will be addressed in a future update.
Editing elements, labels, and default normals
Click the pencil icon on any element to open the edit panel, where you can:
Change the Label, which is the text that appears before the content in your final record
Edit or clear the Default Normal, which is the fallback text CoVet uses when that element is not mentioned during a consult
Enable Remove entire line when there is nothing to say, which keeps records concise automatically
For full details on these options, see Using Advanced Templates to Customize Records.
Scope of Change
Some elements are shared across multiple templates.
When you edit one of these, you will see a prompt asking you to confirm whether your change applies to this template only or to all templates that use it. Read this carefully before saving.
Differential Diagnosis in the Advanced SOAP
When the Problem List + Differential Diagnosis + Comments element is enabled, CoVet automatically generates a differential diagnosis list as part of your record. There is nothing extra you need to do. It runs as part of the normal record generation process.
A couple of things worth knowing:
Differential Diagnoses are generated by CoVet's AI. It is not drawn from an external clinical database and should not be treated as a citable source. Always apply your own clinical judgment.
CoVet does not suggest medications unprompted. The DDx element contains differentials only.
To enable or disable Differential Diagnosis (DDx), expand the Assessment section in the editor and use the visibility toggle on the Problem List + Differential Diagnosis + Comments element.
Customization Tips
Different setups for different species or visit types. Use the Duplicate option in the three-dot menu (⋮) at the top of the template to create separate versions, for example one for small animals, one for equine, and one for rechecks. Each copy can be customized independently.
Custom instructions. The Custom Instructions button in the toolbar lets you add free-text guidance that CoVet applies across the whole template. See Using Custom Instructions for Standard and Advanced Templates for more.
Default normals. You can toggle default normals on or off for the entire template via the three-dot menu (⋮), or adjust the text for individual elements using the pencil icon.
