Summarizing a Medical History or Other PDF

Use this feature to quickly summarize complicated medical histories so you can get up to speed in the blink of an eye.

Why Use CoVet to Summarize a PDF?

Have you ever been presented with 50+ pages of medical history for a patient 2 minutes before walking into a room?


Perhaps you've received multiple files from multiple different facilities and want a cohesive overview of the case that incorporates all documentation?


Maybe you're even summarizing your own medical records in order to send a quick, concise overview to someone else?


These are all great use-cases for CoVet's ability to summarize PDFs. Just follow the steps below to learn how leverage this feature to help your day-to-day practice!


Upload Your PDF File(s)

In most cases you will want to use the dedicated Medical History button

On a browser, drag and drop the required files or, select "Browse Files".

Using the CoVet app, click on either of the two Upload PDF buttons that appear.


You can hold Command (Mac) or Ctrl (PC) on your keyboard to multi select if you would like to upload and summarize multiple files for the same case.

Generate a Summary for Your File(s)

Select which standard summary template (or templates) you would like to use from the list that appears, and then click Generate Content at the bottom.


We suggest using the Medical History - Detailed template as the best summary template to start with.

You can also name your case on this page, but you don't have to. CoVet will automatically name your case once the PDF has finished processing!


Read Your Summary

Your summary should appear in short order. You can review it quickly by clicking on it inside your case content feed.

Alternative Workflow for Custom Summary Templates

The workflow presented above works with any of our standard summary templates. If you want to use a custom summary template you'll want to follow this alternative workflow.


1. From the new case screen, click the Other Content button

2. Select Upload PDF, then click Upload PDF on the screen that appears

3. Browse your computer to select the file or files you would like to summarize

4. Use the Generate from Library button to browse the template library.

You'll likely want to browse to the Summary tab to find your custom summary template. Select it, and then click generate at the bottom of the page.

If you have a custom summary template set as your default template or as one of your favorite templates you can also use the Generate Favorites (star icon) or Generate Default (checkmark icon) shortcut buttons to skip the template selection process.


Ask CoVet AI Chat to Extract Even More Nuanced Information

If after reviewing the summary you have lingering questions, use the CoVet AI Chat function to dive a level deeper. Think of this like being able to speak to someone who knows the source material inside and out, and can answer any questions you like.
