There are a number of options available to change the formatting of text within CoVet. Some of these options can even be triggered automatically!
Text Formatting Options in CoVet Records
CoVet offers various text formatting options, including bolding, italicizing, and changing font size, to enhance the readability and presentation of your records. These formats can then be exported into your practice management software.
Manual Text Formatting
You can manually apply formatting anywhere you see text within CoVet.
- Access an existing record (e.g., a daily round summary).
- Select the text you wish to format.
- Use the drop-down menu to select heading styles (Header 1, Header 2, Header 3, etc.) for different font sizes.
- Use the bold (B) and italic (I) icons to apply bolding or italicization.
- For bullet points, you can switch between typical bullet circles and a numbered list using the respective icons.
Automatic Text Formatting with Advanced Templates
For automatic formatting, you can utilize CoVet's Advanced Templates. (For a comprehensive overview of Advanced Templates, refer to the dedicated video.)
- Access Advanced Templates:
- Go to My Accounts and then Templates.
- Use the filter button and select the "Advanced" badge to view only advanced templates.
- Select an advanced template (e.g., "Advanced SOAP").
- Edit Formatting within Template Elements:
- Within an advanced template, you'll find edit buttons for sections, subsections, and individual elements.
- Clicking these edit buttons will reveal the same basic formatting options: bold, italicize, and headers.
- You can even format the label of an element differently from its content (e.g., bolding "Presenting Concerns" label while the content is plain text).
Exporting Formatted Text (Rich Text Settings)
The final key step is configuring how CoVet copies and pastes formatted text into other programs, such as your practice management software.
- Access Rich Text Settings:
- Go to My Accounts and then Profile and Settings.
- Look for the "Rich Text" option.
- Choose Your Export Format:
- Rich Text: This is the format you see in CoVet with bolded text, italicized text, and clean bullet points. Certain practice management software may be capable of receiving and displaying this format directly.
- Markdown Text: This is a computer language equivalent of rich text (e.g., a word surrounded by two asterisks
**word**
indicates bold). Markdown text works well with some practice management software, such as "ezVet," which can automatically translate it into rich text upon pasting. - Plain Text: This removes all formatting, providing raw text. Plain text will work with virtually any software.
Important Note: The success of pasting formatted text into your practice management software depends on its capabilities. Plain text and markdown text offer broader compatibility.
Experiment with these options to find the best formatting and export settings for your workflow and practice management system. If you have any questions, contact support@co.vet
Also, be sure to check out our article on Advanced templates for more details on how to apply formatting automatically.
Please note that there is a very important setting under My Account > Profile & Settings which affects the behaviour of text that is copied out of CoVet and pasted into another software.
This setting allows you to determine the default behavior of all copy buttons (i.e. both "Copy All" and "Copy" by section buttons) within CoVet.
Mode | Example Output |
---|---|
Rich Text | Rich text looks like this |
Markdown Text | Markdown text **looks like this** |
Plain Text | Plain text looks like this |
Rich text is the option that is set by default, so no need to do anything if you like this setting. Note that even when you copy in rich text from CoVet, this formatting will only work if the destination software is capable of accepting and displaying rich text. This ability will vary from program to program.
Markdown text might be useful for people using certain practice management software like ezyVet, which recognizes markdown and automatically formats it into rich text. When using the Markdown option in CoVet, it will automatically insert the appropriate markdown characters when copied even though what you are viewing in the CoVet editor appears as rich text.
Plain text is, well, plain. Still gets the job done though!
