Focus Mode is a simplified view in CoVet built for consultations. It removes extra navigation so you can focus on recording, generating, and reviewing notes.

It is especially helpful for vets moving through many cases in a day who do not need the full dashboard during consultations. Focus Mode is available on both mobile and web, though it is primarily designed for mobile use.

What you can do in Focus Mode

In Focus Mode, you can:

  • Record during the consultation

  • Generate notes using your most-used templates

  • Review notes in the same view

  • Use a simplified layout with only essential controls visible

  • Lock recording with a single tap

  • Enter and exit Focus Mode quickly when needed

It keeps the key actions for the consult in one place.

Enable Focus Mode

  • Go to your profile

  • Scroll down to Focus Mode

  • Enable Focus Mode

Enter Focus Mode

Once enabled in setting, you can enter Focus Mode in a few ways:

  • Click the lightning bolt icon

  • Press F on your keyboard to enter Focus Mode in the web app

Once started, CoVet switches to a simplified view with fewer on-screen controls.

Exit Focus Mode

To leave Focus Mode:

  • Press Esc on your keyboard in the web app

  • Or use the on-screen control to return to the standard view

This takes you back to the standard CoVet view.

Use generate buttons

Focus Mode includes configurable generate buttons so your most-used templates are quick to access.

These buttons act as shortcuts to the templates you use most often. This makes it quicker to generate content during or right after a consultation without opening a larger menu.

You can set up these buttons by choosing which templates you want available in Focus Mode. You can use them for the note types you generate most often.

For example, you might choose quick access to:

  • SOAP notes

  • Discharge notes

  • Callback summaries

  • Treatment plans

Once configured, these templates appear as one-tap generate buttons in Focus Mode.

Review notes

You do not need to leave Focus Mode to review notes.

After generating content, you can review it without leaving the view. This is useful when you want to quickly check the output before moving to the next case.

Use the lock button

Focus Mode includes an updated lock button for recording.

Instead of pressing and holding, you can activate the lock with a single tap. This is especially helpful during active consultations on mobile.

Keyboard shortcuts

In the web app, you can use keyboard shortcuts to move in and out of Focus Mode quickly:

  • Press F to enter Focus Mode

  • Press Esc to exit Focus Mode

  • Press C to create a new case inside Focus Mode

  • R to start recording

  • P to pause the recording

  • N to add notes

  • 1, 2, 3… to generate in batch (the numbers are placed in the order of your Generate Buttons)

These shortcuts are useful when switching between full case work and a more focused consultation view.

When to use Focus Mode

Focus Mode works best when you are moving quickly between cases and only need the core tools for the consult.

It is especially useful when you:

  • Are moving through many cases in a day

  • Primarily need to record, generate, and review notes

  • Are working on mobile during consultations

  • Want fewer on-screen distractions

  • Want a quicker way to review recordings at the end of a shift

Many vets use Focus Mode during consults, then return to the standard view when they need the full CoVet workspace.
