Ensuring that you were able to successfully record is a crucial part of working with CoVet. Here are some tips to ensure that your recording is successful.

CoVet saves your recording as you go

CoVet saves audio in chunks while you record. If your browser crashes, your device restarts, or you accidentally close the tab, the audio captured up to that point is preserved instead of losing the entire recording.

This protection also applies while you're online and is separate from Offline Mode, which is designed for recording when your internet connection is unavailable or unreliable.

Be mindful of your internet connection

If you are in a location with spotty internet, consider using Offline Mode. If you lose wifi mid-recording, you may not be able to recover the full conversation, but it is often stored to your Offline Content if this occurs. Once you have reliable internet, you can generate your record.

Do not attempt to take pictures/videos or take a phone call at the time of your CoVet recording

If you try to take a photo or video, it can pause the recording on CoVet. Please pause the recording, take the photo or video, and then restart recording in CoVet. The same applies for a phone call, it may interrupt the recording and cause issues when trying to generate a record. If a call comes through that you have to take, once you are done with the call, restart the recording and confirm if anything needs to be rerecorded.

Add CoVet as a site to keep active in Chrome

If you are using a laptop or desktop computer with Chrome, you can add Chrome to your list of sites you wish to keep active. Go to your Chrome Settings > Performance > General > "Always keep these sites active" and add app.co.vet. If you do not wish to add this setting, ensure to keep your computer on the recording tab. Moving from tab to tab in your browser could affect the recording.

Check your microphone

If you are using a phone or tablet, the microphone often does a good job of picking up sounds. Ensure that if you are moving around, you bring your device with you or consider using a lapel microphone. Your phone should not be in your pocket, it needs to be accessible to capture the audio. Some desktop computers do not have microphones, so please consider an external microphone if needed. We would recommend creating a test case and listening back to the audio to ensure that it is recording well. Ensure that you can clearly hear the words being spoken so CoVet can make the most accurate records for you.

Record one case at a time

If your account has multiple open cases, ensure to be cautious when jumping from case to case to record. You can go back to a case to add more information later, but if on desktop, try to keep CoVet on just one tab. Keeping accounts separate is also important; if someone else is recording using the same account, that can affect the recording. Please see this article for more details.

Use a voice recording tool if CoVet is down

If the CoVet platform is running into any issues, we recommend using a recording tool on your own device, such as Voice Memo on iOS or Voice Recorder on Android or an external App. This can be uploaded to CoVet once the platform is back up and running.

Keep your device ready for recording

A few simple habits can help your device run smoothly and reduce the risk of interruptions during consultations.

On your phone or tablet:

  • Check your battery before starting. Recording can use additional battery power, particularly during longer consultations. Keep a charger or portable battery pack nearby.

  • Close apps you aren't using. Other apps running in the background can use battery power and device resources.

  • Keep CoVet updated. Enable automatic app updates or check for updates regularly. Look out for in-app banners announcing new updates.

  • Keep your operating system updated. Install available iOS or Android updates to help maintain device performance.

  • Lock your recording when needed. Use CoVet's recording lock feature to help prevent accidental interactions while recording.

For more advice on improving battery life, see Apple's battery performance recommendations or Google's Android battery-saving tips.

On your laptop or desktop:

  • Close unnecessary browser tabs and applications. This helps free up memory and processing resources.

  • Clear your browser cache when troubleshooting performance issues. If CoVet is running slowly or behaving unexpectedly, clearing cached data may help. Be aware that clearing cookies or site data can sign you out or remove locally stored information.

Before an important consultation, make sure your device has sufficient battery, storage space and a reliable internet connection.
